The Joyces’ flat was on the ground floor on the right. The monthly rent for this flat was Swiss Franc 40, which was quite inexpensive in those days. Nonetheless, Joyce used to complain that the apartment was too small and too musty. Then Joyce got to know Paolo Ruggiero, who recommended the bigger and brighter flat at Seefeldstrasse 73 that his father had just vacated.
(The building was replaced by a larger complex in 2012.)
