Visits in the 1930s
The Hotel Carlton Elite, Bahnhofstrasse 41, is no longer a hotel (the H. C. E. went out of business in 1997), but the building still stands. Joyce frequently stayed in the Hotel Carlton Elite while consulting his ophthalmologist, Dr. Vogt in the thirties. This is also where Joyce worked on the children’s lesson chapter of Finnegans Wake.
